There Is a Hole in the Bucket
The Leak
A galvanized steel bucket hangs suspended against a warm grey ground. There is a hole in its side. Water pours through it in a clean, inevitable arc, catching the light as it falls. The bucket is still full enough to keep losing. It will be empty soon.
This is a painting about futility — and about the strange beauty of watching something drain. About the plans that don't hold, the vessels that can't carry what we put in them, the persistence of trying anyway. It's deadpan and melancholy and quietly hilarious, and it will mean something different to everyone who sees it.
